"I am truly fortunate to have a great support system.  The STEM Advantage program gave me the perfect resources to put me right into my career after graduation. ... This journey, and what a journey it is, began when Lee Ann and Cindy walked into my 5:30pm Web Programming class back in March.  Nine months later I am an official graduate working with an amazing team of individuals here at Toyota Financial Services.  When looking back, I couldn't have planned it better if I tried."

STEM Advantage Networking Night- A Huge Success

On Tuesday, November 19 STEM Advantage held its first annual networking fundraiser at Depot Restaurant in Torrance. Over 100 people gathered from companies including Toyota, Sony Pictures Entertainment, SpaceX, Disney, Avery Dennison, Ernst & Young, Price Waterhouse Cooper, Edison, DIRECTV, UC Irvine, Honda and many others. A special thank you to Toyota for their generous support and sponsorship during the event.

The evening featured a keynote address from Zack Hicks, Group Vice President and CIO, North America, Toyota who spoke of the importance of encouraging our young people in STEM careers and how he along with Toyota are committed to the STEM Advantage cause.

We were also thrilled to be able to debut the STEM Advantage video thanks to Zachary Weil of 2 of Us Productions. A huge thank you to Zack, and everyone who contributed to the success of this event to help fund STEM Advantage scholarships!

Update On Our STEM Advantage Scholars

Lenard & Erica, STEM Advantage Scholars, Interns at Hispanic Scholarship Fund

We are proud to announce that we are finalizing selection of our second group of STEM Advantage Scholars!  All are juniors or seniors pursuing a Bachelor degree in Computer Science or Computer Technology at California State University Dominguez Hills. Many have a concentration in Homeland Security, a major strength of CSUDH's computer science program.  Several students have received offers already for paid summer or year-round internships at leading companies including Toyota and DIRECTV. We anticipate others will receive offers soon.

Our 360 degree approach - paid internship, mentor and scholarship - provides a great support system and helps prepare college students to launch their career. As David said at the top of this newsletter, each and every one of you who supports STEM Advantage - by being a mentor, providing a paid internship or giving a donation  - contributes to the success of young women and underserved communities pursuing a STEM career. Plus collectively we help address U.S. competitiveness and the economic gap. We and the students are grateful for your support.  Thank you!
